Financial aid for ST students: Odisha’s new scheme launching December 31
Bhubaneswar, Dec 11: The Odisha government is set to launch the Shahid Madho Singh Haath Kharcha Yojana on December 31, aimed at providing financial assistance to Scheduled Tribe (ST) students. This announcement was made by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi during the state-level Indian Languages Festival on Wednesday.
The scheme will be officially inaugurated at Ghens in Bargarh district as part of the celebrations for the death anniversary of Saheed Madho Singh, a renowned tribal leader and freedom fighter.
According to official sources, the initiative aims to reduce the dropout rate among ST students by offering one-time financial support of ₹5,000 to those enrolled in Class XI and XII at government and aided schools throughout the state.
Students who are already receiving benefits from other scholarship schemes will still be eligible for this financial incentive under the Shahid Madho Singh Haath Kharcha Yojana. As per the guidelines, eligible ST students completing Class 8 and Class 10 will receive the ₹5,000 incentive upon enrolling in Class 9 and Class 12, respectively, promoting regular attendance after enrollment.
