Cyclone Dana: Odisha promises relief for affected farmers under new guidelines
Bhubaneswar, (Odisha fast), Oct 26: The Odisha government announced on Saturday that it will provide adequate compensation to farmers who have experienced crop damage due to Cyclone Dana, in line with the new relief guidelines. Deputy Chief Minister K V Singh Deo, who oversees the Agriculture portfolio, chaired a post-cyclone review meeting to assess the extent of damage to standing crops.
Singh Deo stated that eligible farmers will receive compensation directly in their bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. “We have instructed district-level officials to submit assessment reports according to the new guidelines established by the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC). Compensation will then be disbursed to the affected farmers via DBT,” he explained.
The Deputy Chief Minister also urged the public to avoid submitting false or fabricated claims for undue benefits, warning that anyone found providing misleading information would face repercussions.
Preliminary reports indicate that 79,671 hectares of agricultural land have been impacted statewide, particularly in the districts of Kendrapada, Jajpur, Balasore, and Bhadrak, with total damages affecting approximately 199,177 acres. In Kendrapada alone, around 23,000 hectares have suffered damage, especially in the regions of Rajkanika, Mahakalpara, and Aul.
